The Technical University of Denmark (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet; DTU) is ranked as one of the foremost technical universities in Europe, continues to set new records in the number of publications, and persistently increase and develop our partnerships with industry, and assignments accomplished by DTU’s scientific advice. The research activities at DTU Fotonik cover a unique spectrum of central core areas within communication technology, laser technology, sensor technology, optics and materials research. DTU Fotonik is one of the only university departments in the world that cover all aspects of Photonics.
Research at DTU Fotonik includes development of high speed optical communication systems, technologies for metro-access, and short range communication, fibre based lasers and optical enhancers, design and implementation of ultra-high-speed communications systems, development of diode lasers and diode lighting systems, development of optical sensor systems and modelling and production of advanced semiconductor based components, such as lasers and modulators.
Key Research Facilities, Infrastructure and Equipment
The experimental facilities of DTU Fotonik comprises state-of-the-art equipment such as scopes, spectrum analyzers, optical and electrical components for operation at 40-50 GHz. Real-time sampling scope with a sampling rate of 40 GSa/s, a coherent optical receiver set-up, advanced modulation format modulators, diverse optical modulators and photo-detection devices. Diverse optical fiber spans, polymer fibers, optical amplifiers, pulse pattern generators and bit-error rate test sets, etc.
